Applicant Process and Requirements

The Finishing Trades Institute is the official training provider for District Council 21 and accepts Apprentice Applications exclusively online.

Applications are only accepted on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month between 8:30AM-3:30PM,
ALL requirements must be completed and ready to submit to receive a test date.

**Effective 01/26/2018: due to the immediate need for Industrial Painting Apprentices - applications for this trade ONLY will be accepted and testing done each Monday from 8:30am to 2:30pm until current need is met.

apply to the FTI Copy of High School Diploma or GED equivalent
apply to the FTI "Official" copy of High School Transcripts or GED grades
apply to the FTI 3 letters of recommendation
apply to the FTI Hand written Hand written or typed essays (
    Complete ALL 4 essays. Hand written or typed, essay questions are on page 3 of the help page)
apply to the FTI $35.00 Check, Cash, or money order (Made out to FTI)
apply to the FTI 2 Government issued forms of identification

    2. Birth Certificate
    3. Passport
    4. Department of Defense Identification Card
    5. Certification
    6. Certification of Naturalization

PROCESS: (Please read carefully)
Upon completion of application and retrieval of required documents, applicant should hand deliver application package to one of the following addresses:


MAIN CAMPUS (2190 Hornig Rd Philadelphia, PA 19116 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month between 8:30AM-3:30PM).


DRUMS CAMPUS (66 Azalea Dr. Can do Corporate Park – Drums, Pa 18222. If you are dropping off at this location please make an appointment by calling 570-708-2918).


At the time of delivery, an FTI staff member will check off all the required documents, once the documents have been submitted the applicant will receive a letter with a date and time to take the online performance exam, provided by Apprentice Performance Solutions, APS. Applicants completing and passing the performance exam will be notified with a letter via mail of when and where to report for an interview. The FTI determines what constitutes a passing grade on the performance exam. An applicant may only miss or reschedule one (1) test before being disqualified and made to reapply one year from last missed test date.
