APPRENTICESHIP QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must have adequate transportation to attend on-the-job learning and related instruction classes.
- Applicants shall be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program with reasonable accommodation where appropriate, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
- Applicants are required to submit a drug screen prior to admission. Failure to consent to such a screen or a verified positive drug test result will disqualify the applicant for admission into the apprenticeship program. Additionally, please be advised that random drug screening and reasonable suspicion screening may be performed throughout the apprenticeship program, if accepted.
- INDUSTRIAL PAINTER APPLICANTS: Upon acceptance into the program, industrial painters must obtain a TWIC Transportation Security Administration card. You can apply for this card on tsa.gov. (Possession of this card may expedite your acceptance).
- LINE STRIPING APPLICANTS: Must possess a CDL and upload a copy of the license for when applying.

Gather below required documents for scanning into our online application:

- Certification of Naturalization
- Certification of Citizenship
- TWIC card
- High school transcripts or GED certificate. (High School Diplomas are not acceptable)

- High school transcripts or GED certificate. If you do not have your transcripts, please upload documentation that you have applied for them and have your school mail or email them to:
- Three (3) letters of recommendation. (Letters should be from three different people who are not family members)
- Completion of three (3) essays listed below: (Essays are a minimum of 250 words)
- Explain how you heard about the DC 21 apprenticeships, and why you want to become an apprentice at the FTI-MAR.
- Assume you have completed a vigorous, four-year DC 21 apprenticeship with the FTI-MAR, and several thousands of dollars have been spent on your education. What do you believe are your responsibilities now that you are a DC 21 Journeyperson?
- Assuming FTI-MAR staff members do not know you. Write a “personal sales presentation” as to why FTI-MAR should accept you as a student and DC21 member. This is a good chance to sell your strong qualities. (Resume not acceptable)
- Applications will be reviewed within seven (7) business days. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email from Calendly requesting you to select a date and time to reserve your seat to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.
- There is a $35.00 test fee which is payable on the date of your test. (Cash, check, and money order are accepted)
- Note: You will need to take the Wonderlic test at the location of the facility you are applying to. Please apply to the FTI-MAR facility that you can commute to for the Wonderlic test and apprenticeship classes.
- Wonderlic tests will be administered on the following dates at both facilities:

- Friday, March 8, 2024
- Thursday, June 6, 2024
- Thursday, September 5, 2024
- Friday, December 6, 2024

- There is a $35.00 processing fee for submitting this application. Payment can be made by cash, check, or money order when you take your Wonderlic test.
Step #2: Take a basic Wonderlic test.
The FTI-MAR administers a basic version of the Wonderlic test for all apprenticeship applicants at the Philadelphia FTI-MAR facility. These tests are conducted on a quarterly basis. Test fee is non-refundable if you do not cancel prior to the scheduled test date. You will receive an email asking you to sign up for a test slot after you submit your application.
FTI-MAR conducts testing on a quarterly basis. Test dates are subject to change. Once you receive your results, you have the option to retake the test to improve your overall score, if you choose to do so.

Step #3: Complete an in-person interview.
You will be notified of the date and time to complete an in-person interview. There is no predetermined interview schedule. It is at the discretion of the coordinator of the trade you are applying for.
Once the interview is complete, your total score (consisting of your test score, interview score, and essays score) will be placed on a ranking sheet according to your total score. Being placed on the ranking sheet does not guarantee acceptance. Apprentices are offered an apprenticeship based on the need of the trade in which they applied. Rank placement expires 2 years from date of test.
